New Loon Fung Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into New Loon Fung Restaurant offers an inviting pause from the bustle of London’s Chinatown. The multi-level space feels grounded yet lively, a place where chatter softly mingles with the clink of cutlery and the warm aroma of dim sum drifting from busy kitchen stations. Its steady hum hints at steady rhythms—families gathering, friends sharing plates, and solo diners drawn by quiet familiarity.
The mood here is comfortably unpolished, a genuine local haunt where the pace encourages you to settle in and savor the moment. Between the bustling supermarket downstairs and the restaurant’s upstairs refuge, New Loon Fung captures a whirl of everyday life that never feels rushed, with staff who attend thoughtfully without crowding the table.
Through those doors, you find more than just food. It’s about sharing small plates that arrive on steamy carts or presented with textured layers—tender pork dumplings, glistening har gow, and noodles that carry a homey richness. There is a sturdy heartiness in dishes like roast duck and fried noodles, dishes that feel familiar yet, upon each visit, invite quiet discovery in their comforting flavors.
Seasonal touches and local favorites mix effortlessly here, encouraging diners to taste the subtle shifts in texture and spice—from soft congee through crisp-edged fried noodles to delicate egg tarts cooling on the side. The atmosphere and menu together build a connection between kitchen and community, making this an enduring spot for those who appreciate approachable, honest Chinese cooking with a hint of vibrancy.

My absolute go to place for dim sum in London! Always busy and super tasty, my favourites are shrimp dumplings, scallops&shrimp dumplings, paper wrapped prawns and deep fried prawn dumplings. Highly recommended!

A supermarket downstairs and a restaurant upstairs, fantastic. Restaurant The food portions were big, well cooked and delicious. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. At 5pm on a Tuesday there were 3 tables occupied by 6pm all of them were. Food was reasonably priced for a central London, Chinatown Restaurant. Reservations definitely recommended Will definitely return. Supermarket Covered a large area over the ground floor. Plenty of food to choose from. Fresh and frozen fish available. Biscuits, crisps and confectionery available. Could have spent a fortune. Will definitely come back.

The food is good but it could have done better. For example ,roasted duck is not very juicy and the upper skin is not very crispy like other top Chinese shops which I could name. Pork belly is great. Service is not bad /not good. As usual per Se,Servers from Most of Chinese shops in London China town are not too patient and blunt as usual, not surprisingly. I had been told by the server to complete our sauce first as I requested another sauce for dim sum and 6 of us were sharing the only single sauce plate. Spacious area for dining as they have upstair.

Had an absolute cracker of a dinner at New Loon Fung in Chinatown, proper authentic Cantonese food that hits the spot! The menu is packed with classics and real traditional dishes you don’t see everywhere. Service is lightning-fast and the waiters are genuinely attentive without hovering. The crispy duck pancakes and fried beef in chilli black bean sauce were both 10/10, easily some of the best in London. It looks dead ordinary from the outside (classic hidden-gem energy), but inside it’s always buzzing. Already been twice in a month and counting down the days till the next visit. If you’re in Chinatown, skip the tourist traps and head straight here. You won’t regret it!

My last visit to this restaurant was a few years ago and this time went there to meet some new friends. The standard of dishes was average but the service was very good.
